Beekeeping traditions of Slovenia
We are proud to present you a novelty among thematic tours – a new signature tour Beekeeping traditions of Slovenia.
The tradition of modern beekeeping in Slovenia begins with the famous beekeeper Anton Janša, whom the Empress of the Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresa herself invited to Vienna to become a teacher in the newly established School of beekeeping.
The tour begins with a visit to the Museum of Apiculture in Radovljica, where we will first learn about the history of beekeeping, about the life and work of a Slovenian bee breed Kranjska Sivka (Latin Apis mellifera carnica), as well as get acquainted with the folk culture of life - panjske končnice (decoratively painted panels, placed over bee hives).
After visiting the museum, we will relax a little bit with a visit to the Museum and workshop of honeybread and make a short coffee break.
The tour continues with a visit to the estate of a well-known beekeeping family near the Alpine Lake Bled. The owner, a beekeeper will introduce us to the life of the bees, the beekeeper’s work throughout the year, as well as hold a tasting of different bee products.
In the afternoon, before returning to Ljubljana, according to the clients’ requests we can make stop for lunch in a local restaurant or take a walk along the shore of the fabulous Lake Bled.
